Sun Belt Conference Football 2010 Preview, Futures Odds and Predictions

The Sun Belt Conference travels down the radar for most of the football season, but there are a lot of drama here. If you are knowledgeable about the teams in the conference you can do serious money as the season progresses – some of these lesser-known conferences are the bread and butter of serious handicap college football. As is the case with most of the minor leagues, there is a large disconnect between the top of their league and the bottom. The top teams are the big schools are afraid to play, while the teams at the bottom are the major schools consider an easy way to complete your registration.

Troy Trojans won the league two years in a row. Can you do three in a row in 2010? Certainly seems to be coming to either Troy or Middle Tennessee State of the Sun Belt championship this season. Dwight Dasher may be the best player in the Sun Belt and Middle Tennessee State team is hungry to win the title outside Troy.
Below Troy and Middle Tennessee is likely to be a group of teams fighting for the third and fourth in the league. The Mean Green North Texas are improving, and Florida Atlantic will be a dangerous team. Arkansas State and Louisiana Lafayette are big questions this season because of the mass changes year's team past. The trio of Florida International, Monroe, Louisiana and Western Kentucky has been struggling to stay out of the cellar in the Sun Belt in recent years.

September 2 – Minnesota at Middle Tennessee State-The Blue Raiders will host the Golden Gophers on the first day of college football action. I think Middle Tennessee State has a good chance of winning this, which might give the League a big boost.
September 11 – Troy at Oklahoma State, Troy has a history of taking tough opponents in the nonconference schedule. Oklahoma State is not as good this year as in past years, but this will still be a tough test in the way of the Trojans.
September 25 – North Texas at Florida Atlantic "It's two teams that have the potential to make some noise in the conference. This could end up being the battle for third place in the league.
October 5 – Troy at Middle Tennessee State-The title of the Sun Belt Conference will probably be in the line as Troy visits Middle Tennessee State in the game Tuesday night in October. It must be hard-fought game going to last.

Sun Belt Conference Football Predictions (order of arrival):
Middle Tennessee State "I think the Blue Raiders are the team to get past Troy this year, especially since the Trojans will receive at home. This crime should be the best in the league.
Troy "There's still plenty of talent here, but the loss of Levi Brown at quarterback damaging. I suspect this team will be great for all but the Blue Raiders in 2010.
Florida Atlantic team-Howard Schnellenberg has some key pieces to replace, but I think the defense should be much better than last year. The Owls definitely surprise some teams.
Arkansas State-This team underachieved-ago year, and I have to think that will improve a bit this season. The defense was the best in the league in 2009, and should be solid once again.
North Texas-El Green half have been terrible in recent times, but should move up in classification this year. The crime is rapidly improving, but the defense is not yet very good.
Louisiana-Monroe-The Warhawks have a strong runner in Frank Goodin, but the team as a whole is not very deep. The defense returns only four starters and could be a big problem.
Louisiana-Lafayette "This team has been 6-6 in the last two years, but that does not receive the Sun Belt teams a post bowl. I think they'll step back this year because of losses on the offensive line key.
Western Kentucky-The Hilltoppers went last year without a win, but the improvement was evident as the season was ending. This team will win some games this year.
Florida International, Mario Cristobal has spent just over three years 9.27 at FIU, and this year looks no better. The defense is the worst in the league and the offense is very inconsistent.
